Instead of a new year’s resolution, I pick a new word of the year. After praying and pondering, I’ve landed on two words. Couldn’t do just one word this year, I tried.
In 2006, I picked “trust” and last year I picked “comfort.” This year my words are:
FREELY GIVE
Matthew 10:8 Freely you have received, freely give.
The reason I picked these two words is because I felt after reflecting on 2007 that I didn’t give as much as I would have liked. And when I did give, it was conditional. Like, “I’ll scratch your back if you scratch mine.” I loved my husband only if he did_________(fill in the blank). I grumbled about serving my children more than I’d like to admit. I wanted them to give me respect first, then I’ll help them. I thought selfishly about what I wanted to get more than what I could do to help another.
So here I am. Ready for God to lead the way in my giving. Without reserve. No matter what the cost, I want to start obeying God. Listening to his voice rather than my own.
Christ gave his life on a cross for me. Giving to others is the least I can do to show my gratitude for all he’s done for me.
Giving my love.
Giving my listening ear to a friend.
Giving money.
Giving my service.
Giving thanks.
Giving smiles.
Giving affection.
Giving forgiveness when needed.
Giving my time to my family.
Giving God my life as a living sacrifice.
Wow, sounds like a challenge for me. By the grace of God, I pray I’ll grow in my ability to freely give this year. Please pray for me. I’m still learning to “trust” and find “comfort”-–my words from 2006 and 2007.

My theme for the year is actually 6 words. It’s on the header of my blog. I plan on most everything I post this year to fit one of the 3 categories and also live it out.
Live Simply. Laugh Often. Love Deeply. I guess if I were to pick on word it would have to be either legacy or intentional. I want to be intentional about the way I live my life so I leave a lasting legacy to those my life has touched.

intentional.
