Once again, I’m reading and reading some more. One of my recent reads was Get Out of That Pit by Beth Moore. I read it in two days. It was just what the good Lord ordered. Straight talk. No fluff. Ever had a book or article speak straight to you, right where you’re at? This was one of those for me.
Moore says there are three signs of pit living.
- You feel stuck.
- You can’t stand up.
- You’ve lost vision.
Can you relate? I could. I saw myself in the pit. Again. I was stuck repeating the same thoughts of self condemnation, unable to stand up against the attack of the enemy. And I had lost sight of what matters most.
I found such hope and strength from this book. I have a new fire inside to stand firm regardless of how I feel. My feelings blind me to the truth of the Word. Moore talks about “making up our minds” to never go back to the pit. And she drilled it until I agreed with her.
Here’s a paragraph from her book:
Or you could make up your mind that you’re in with God, standing upon that rock, for the rest of your days. The apostle Paul called it being found in Christ (see Philippians 3:9). No matter how long it’s been since you’ve seen me, He is where you can find me. Whether my health flourished or fails, that’s where I’ll be. Richer or poorer, I’ve made up my mind. In the light of day or dark of night, find me in Christ. Spouse or not. Kids or not. Job or not. I’ve made up my mind.
Have you found yourself in the pit? Ready to make up your mind once and for all?
Paulette Harris says
Yesss…that pit is a very ugly place to be. Once fallen in, it is difficult to bring yourself back up and out. As a matter of fact. we can’t we need to remember to ask for HELP from our Father. I had just gotten off a spiritual high last fall, only to fall again! Help! He sent the right help and also since I am a writer, Nick Harrison had a self-help test and I went way over the top in passing. That helped! I know I am on the right path and dowg-gone it, the enemy isn’t going to have his way because I have made up my mind up once and for all!
Blessings to everyone in 2007, it is going to be an excellent year in our Lord!
Love, Paulette
