I walked into Lowe’s yesterday and instantly smelled hot dogs. There was a small vendor cart right inside the main door. But no one was manning the cart. Then I noticed a small grey sign on the counter.
Necessary Break. Back in 3 minutes.
I laughed. What a creative way to say I’m in the bathroom! Then I thought about the words: necessary break.
What a good thing. A break. How often do I take a break from the busyness of life? Even if it’s only for three to five minutes. I love my daily quiet time, but even then I’m not taking a break. I’m busy talking–praying. But am I listening?
I say we dust off our “necessary break” signs and start using them. Let’s give ourselves and others permission to rest, relax, and just BE.
Yet so often I ask my friends, “What are you doing this fall?” Recently one of them answered, “Nothing. I’m learning how to BE. ” Bravo!
I’m learning to do the same.
Psalm 46:10 Be still and know that I am God.

Loved it…being is so much better than doing:-) Learning to rest in Him as let Him supply my energy to write. Thanks for visiting my writer’s blog recently. Always good to meet another kindred soul.
Blessings,
Vicki

While studying the ancient monastic rule of St. Benedict last year, I laughed to find that in the middle of this incredible spiritual guide, Benedict has made provisions during Mass for bathroom breaks! I guess they are sort of a timeless necessity.
Thanks for your comment on my blog. I look forward to checking in on yours!

Ah,yes. I SO could use a “necessary break.” I guess that’s what blogging is!

It sounds like God was speaking the same thing to both of us this week!
