Mark 9:50 “Salt is good, but if it loses its saltiness, how can you make it salty again? Have salt in yourselves, and be at peace with each other.”
One cold morning as I walked up to the mall entrance, I noticed white specks sprinkled all along the wet sidewalk. I realized the specks were salt, and then remembered salt melts ice. Salt has over 14,000 known uses. Salt is a common household seasoning, a food preserver, a water softener, a de-icer, and is also used to make soaps and glass.
Jesus said we are the salt of the earth. Jesus modeled salt for us by loving and caring for the lost, the lonely, the lepers. He gave hope to the hopeless. He prayed for his enemies.
I’m sure you know people who are like ice, cold and hardhearted towards God. They desperately need salt. They need you! We have the privilege through God’s love to melt their hearts. It’s our commission. A simple act of kindness can start the melting process: a quick phone call, card, e-mail, encouraging word, listening ear, hug, or smile. Over time, the cold hearted will have no choice but to warm up because of our steadfast love.
Just as salt has thousands of uses, there are thousands of little ways we can make ice-cold people know we care and show them God’s love is real.
Prayer- Heavenly Father, show me who needs a little salt today. Sprinkle my life onto those who are ice-cold. Help not to lose my saltiness because of my fears or selfishness. I trust and believe that through Your leading I can and will make a difference in someone’s life today. Speck by speck, Your glory with be revealed all across the world. In Jesus Name, Amen
