Do you make New Year’s resolutions? Does your list motivate you? Does it work? Or does it disappoint you and yell, “You can’t change, so why even try?”
I’m done with resolutions. They never worked for me. Sure, the list was great, but I needed something simpler. A clear focus.
So instead of resolutions, I’ve adopted another annual tradition thanks to an article a friend of mine shared with me four years ago. In this article, the writer suggested picking a word for the year. Actually the idea was such a powerful one that I’ve picked a word every year since. I love it.

Tiffany, I'll join you in this. Lists never worked for me either.
Lord Jesus, I pray that You would put in me a new word(s)/phrase that I could use for 2009. I pray that I be diligent and focused on You as I use it during the year to strengthen me. In Jesus' name, amen.
Trust & obey keeps coming to mind. I feel the Holy Spirit moving on this. I believe I'll use it.
Here's my scripture:
Isaiah 50:9-10
9 Surely the Lord GOD will help Me;
Who is he who will condemn Me?
Indeed they will all grow old like a garment;
The moth will eat them up.
10 “ Who among you fears the LORD?
Who obeys the voice of His Servant?
Who walks in darkness
And has no light?
Let him trust in the name of the LORD
And rely upon his God.

I left a message on your other blog but here it is…
Tiffany,
This is wonderful. I don’t do NY’s resolutions either and actually January of 2007 I began focusing on ‘biblical goals’ is what I called it but it related to all areas of my life: Spirit, soul, body, relational, ministry and so on. Relating the Word of God fully to areas of my life as I lived day to day and this month being the final month of this year I have been really thinking about the year (pondering) and recapping the year and looking forward to next year so perhaps this time I will use your idea and focus on a word or words. I actually this morning as I left to go to Curves to work out, thought of words for 2009 that reflected inward (care of Lisa), outward (care of others) and upward (care of the Lord) use of my life so this is certainly in line with what you’re saying and I appreciate the Lord in using you to speak it!
Bless you.

Tiffany,
I was so deeply moved by my experience this morning in the Lord and how it tied in with your blog later in the morning. I wrote about it and shared your message on my blog Sharing Life with Lisa:
2009 Forward Living
Bless you.

Hi Tiffany,
Are you going to share your word with us? I would love to know what it is. 🙂
I don’t set goals at new years most of the time, but this year I am going to try it. But I think that having a word that is the focal point of my goals is really a good idea.
Merry Christmas!

I like the idea of choosing a word. Loved the videos. Here I am to Worship made me smile all the way through. Your daughter is so cute. Your brother is amazing.
