As I enter into His rest for a time, I am loving the book Prayer by Richard J. Foster. In his chapter The Prayer of Rest, I found such freedom. Confirmation for where I am at. Because for me, rest does not mean grabbing my cookies and milk and my remote and spacing out. Rather, it means living each day following God’s lead. Whatever that looks like.
Here are two things that spoke to me from this chapter:
“Rest. Rest. Rest in God’s love. The only work you are required to do now is to give your most intense attention to His still, small voice within.” Madame Jeanne Guyon.
“No teaching flowing out of the Sabbath principle is more important to the centrality of our resting in God. Instead of striving to make this or that happen, we learn to trust in a heavenly Father who loves to give. This does not promote inactivity, but it does promote dependent activity. No longer do we take things into our own hands. Rather, we place all things into divine hands and then act out of inner promptings.”
On Purpose says
There is such beauty in the design of the relationship He created for us!
Tricia says
“The only work you are required to do now is to give your most intense attention to His still, small voice within.”
“No longer do we take things into our own hands. Rather, we place all things into divine hands and then act out of inner promptings.”
Thank you for sharing this… the above is what spoke to me from each quote… oh how I do desire to give my most intense attention to His still small voice, I long to hear Him speaking to me!
And how comforting to place ALL things into His divine hands and then wait for and act on His promptings… waiting for God, being still before Him, is so very important. We must intentionally push the busyness of life aside to make time to be still before Him, or we will never hear Him.
Blessings!
