Recently I laughed with a friend until I cried. It felt good. Have you had one of those laughs lately? If not, why?
Why don’t we create time for laughter?
As a mom, I’m often too serious. Except for occasional moments when I cut loose.
Yesterday was one of those times. My daughter Hannah was grounded. So after school, she spent the evening inside with me. She did her homework while I practiced for a presentation I’m giving on Wednesday. And we laughed. And laughed some more.
One of the main ways I prepare to speak is to do the presentation with animation. I act silly. I walk with extra shake, I blink big and often, and I use funny voices. It helps me relax. Because I’m terrified about fear public speaking and yet I want to speak. Go figure.
After our work time, we read together. First she read to me. Then she asked me to add to the story I’ve been telling her for months about two kids who love worms and rolly polly bugs. She rolled laughing as I came up with more craziness.
Anyway, as Hannah prepared for bed last night she said, “I want to be grounded tomorrow too.”
I don’t know if she learned her lesson about being responsible, but she and I made a memory full of laughter.
Laughter is priceless.
