Why is it that what I’m most passionate about goes out the window when I’m under pressure?
For example, my freedom, I can have it one minute and lose it the next. All it takes is a little stress or a slight squeeze and I surrender to my old ways of self-pity, pride or hiding in shame. I don’t stay there as long as I used to, but I still find myself having to dig myself out of my pit.
But I know freedom is worth fighting for, so I’m here tonight writing to proclaim truth.
I am free.
Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.
2 Corinthians 3:17 NIV
I love the word freedom, don’t you?
Have you ever seen the movie Spirit? (trailer below) That movie makes me cry. It speaks to my heart about the battle for freedom. It’s a fight to the end. There will be people who try to keep us down.
Maybe that’s you tonight, you feel bound, no longer free. Maybe you’ve been reminded of a past failure. Maybe you’ve bought into another lie. Maybe you’re just tired of fighting.
If so, I get that. But we can’t stay there, we’ve gotta get up and dust ourselves off, stand up tall, and remember who we are, even under pressure. We can’t let the enemy win. We have what it takes. We have the Spirit of the Lord, and with Him, there is freedom!!
So choose life and live free.
Still unsure about all of this freedom talk? Please read the verse below.
It is absolutely clear that God has called you to a free life. Just make sure that you don’t use this freedom as an excuse to do whatever you want to do and destroy your freedom. Rather, use your freedom to serve one another in love; that’s how freedom grows. For everything we know about God’s Word is summed up in a single sentence: Love others as you love yourself. That’s an act of true freedom. If you bite and ravage each other, watch out—in no time at all you will be annihilating each other, and where will your precious freedom be then? Galatians 5:13-15 MSG
