(This is day 11 of my 31 day blog series: Live Free. )
Last night my daughter and her friend were looking through my Instagram pics when I overheard a comment about my leaf on a sidewalk pic. They didn’t get it, so they laughed. Go ahead and laugh. I live with wonder. And you’re missing out if you don’t! Yep, a little snotty of me but that’s how I felt. Unknowingly, my daughter mocked one of my greatest gifts and deepest values.
Wonder.
Is there such thing as a professional wonder-er?
If so, I’m one. And I could easily help others become one. Just follow me for a day and you would see I live in the super slow lane. When I’m driving I may pull over to take a pic or I may snap one while I drive. I take pictures inside and outside stores. I take pictures of silhouettes of strangers at the beach. I cannot NOT notice and capture the moment. I look for beauty. Every. Single. Day. It’s part of my God-given DNA.
I’m a noticer, a wonder-er.
I may not notice what you’re wearing, but I will notice a beautiful bug, a feather, a road sign or sunset, or a dad holding a child’s hand. I’m memorized by life’s little things. I live to discover them. And I drive fast, busy people crazy! I really don’t mean to, but I cannot help it. I’m just being me. Yes, I take too long on a nature hike because of my chronic pix-stops. I never tire of looking and wondering. But there is more to my pics than just a pretty photo.
I take pics to slow down. I take pics to live to live more fully. I take pics to wonder. And my wonder-ings always lead me to ask “why.”
Why did God created seasons? Why are winter days so short and yet the season itself, so long? Why are certain places so hot and dry? Why frozen lands?
Why do people grow old and become grumpy? Why childhood diseases? Why bad guys and sexual predators?
Why did God make so many flowers, birds and butterflies? Why mosquitoes and spiders? Why slugs and sloths? Why so many colors to choose from?
Why do I love broken, rusty and abandoned places and appreciate their beauty?
Why do I love, love, love simple things?
Why do I resist routine?
Why do I love the sound of laughter?
Why do I cry when I see live performances?
Why are baby toes so cute?
Why do I love the smell of Play-Doh and Crayola crayons?
Why is the news so negative? Why are people so judgmental? Why apathy? Why The American Dream? What about the hurting? Why so many hardened hearts? Why depression and anxiety? Why suicide?
Why do I love communicating on a deep level so dang much?
Why the five senses?
Why do I hate following the crowd? Why do I insist on paving my own way?
Why do baby animals tickle my heart?
Why don’t people enjoy life more? Why do people choose to live under such darkness when God offers freedom and light?
Why not more joy?
Why not more Jesus?
Oh, how I love to wonder. I love that I am FREE to wonder.
I live to see more wonder. More wonder-ful you please. More wonder-ful love. More justice. More mercy. More beauty. More of God’s goodness in such a busy and blurry world.
I live a wonder-ful simple life and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Oh I wish I had your passion and enthusiasm to wonder around and capture life. I am lucky if I get a few moments to snap a cell phone picture. There is so much to see in life. Perhaps one day I will be able to afford a life coach and get myself under control! Have a blessed weekend!
