What would you draw if you were handed a blank piece of paper? I’d probably write words or doodle swirls or geometric shapes.
How ’bout if you were given a paper with an outlined pumpkin that said, “I am NOT a pumpkin, I am a _______.” Would your mind go blank or would you tap into the child and create?
Taped to the windows of a coffee house was exactly that: pumpkins transformed into whatever the child decided. An ordinary pumpkin became a:
blue bear
Cinderella’s carriage
apple
dragon egg
70’s dude
frog
hat
Super Squash
butterfly
cheetah
fish
pumpkin air balloon
Each piece of art was unique and colored with crayon. I loved them. All of us have a creative part to us. The child within.
My son Justin, who’s 14, drew this during our family devotion time.(All 3 pics are the same drawing. I just zoomed in for a closer view.)I assumed he was doodling like I do. When I saw it, I was overwhelmed at the depth and meaning. Justin thought it was no big deal. I told him how creative and artistic he was.
So here’s my challenge: Look for ways to be creative today. I know you’ve got it in you. Who knows, you might come up with the next best thing!

I loved Justin’s drawing. What depth of insight!
I also loved that you referred to the not-pumpkin drawings. Too bad you couldn’t post pictures of them, too.

It’s amazing how we don’t realize when we’re being creative–just like Justin tried to brush off his drawings.
And my favorite pumpkin was the butterfly!

I am reading a great book on writer’s creativity right now. It is amazing.
I love the Angels in Justin’s drawing. I will catch you when you fall. Isn’t it wonderful insight that our little ones have?
Grandma Bib says
Cool picture Justin, I like also the part about catching you if you fall. Must of been a God thing. Love ya

What a terrific drawing! My daughter (17) is an artist, too, and she amazes me sometimes at the spiritual depth in an art piece. ๐
