Something about buying pencils, three ring binders, socks and underwear motivates me to declutter. It a great feeling to find the bottom of my closets and the top of my desk again after the adventure of summer.
I feel ten pounds lighter.
As I sorted through the piles and files on my desk, I came across a sweet reminder of my influence. These small notes my daughter, Hannah, made when she was about five or six years old.
A few years ago, I worked through a book of disciples with my friends. I purposefully posted sticky notes around the house on mirrors, cabinet doors and the fridge. They served as a reminder for me to slow down and to be joyful.
Yes, I’m the type of mom who is known to be too serious and too busy.
Hannah watched with curiosity and asked me what I was doing. After I explained why, Hannah made her own notes. One for her door(the first one) and one for me.
Finding these notes came at a perfect time. It seems at the end of every summer I beat myself up for not doing enough with my kids. These notes reminded me I’m influencing my children in a positive way.
So often I focus on what I am not.
