A Prayer for Children

Lord God, thank You for children. They are a gift from You. Children are created in Your image. They see life through a lens of childlike faith. They believe easy. Children can teach us much if we just look and listen to them as they go about their day. They live in the moment. They laugh. They are forgetful. They don’t worry like adults do. They see wonder in the small things like potato bugs and big bubbles.

Jesus, thank You that You invite the children to come to You. You aren’t bothered by their whining, begging, or the sounds of their laughter. You see beauty in their innocence. You delight in Your sons and daughters. You smile over them as they sleep.

As a mother, I love having both a son and a daughter. I pray Your blessing upon them. Show them how much You love them. Use their lives to advance Your kingdom. May they live to make Your name great.

Allow all children to see You clearly at a young age. May they say “Yes” to You and follow You all the days of their lives. Teach them how to love with abandon. Don’t let them grow bitter over those who hurt them. Equip them to faithfully follow hard after You. Not to look to fame, success, people, worldly possessions, money or self to satisfy them. Let them look to You for their significance.

You alone can validate their existence.

Lord, reveal to them Your purpose. Who are they in the body? A hand? An eye? A mouth? What? Show them their unique gifts and talents. Help them realize they don’t have to be a grown up to be used greatly by You. Use them today, while they are small. Let them love well in schools and the ordinary places they go. Protect them from the enemy’s plans to destroy them. Guard over their hearts. Keep them set apart for Your glory.

Bless them, Lord, bless them indeed.

And thank You, Lord, that I am a child too.
