(sign on grounds of retreat center this weekend)
Ever feel like quitting before you’re finished with something important?
I understand completely. I have the tendency to cave or quit under pressure. I feel tired, discouraged and defeated. Thoughts like “I can’t do this anymore. It’s too hard,” scream at me. Questions like “How much longer, LORD?” fill my mind.
This sign reminded me that often times we quit right before we are there. Right before our greatest victory. We must continue moving forward and fight for what we know God has called us to do. We must keep walking uphill, even if we must go alone. We must keep building God’s kingdom through prayer and action. We will face opposition, oh yes, but we must not quit. We must stand up and fight. Fight with all our might.
For in my weakness, God is strong. He will help me take another step.
I can’t quit now, I’m almost there.
These verses from Nehemiah remind me that though opposition is great, God is GREATER. I need not fear. I must continue, as hard as it is, to fight. For both my blood family–and my spiritual family.
Therefore I stationed some of the people behind the lowest points of the wall at the exposed places, posting them by families, with their swords, spears and bows. After I looked things over, I stood up and said to the nobles, the officials and the rest of the people, “Don’t be afraid of them. Remember the Lord, who is great and awesome, and fight for your brothers, your sons and your daughters, your wives and your homes.” Nehemiah 4:13-14(NIV)

YOu've read my mind today. I was just wondering if it would be easier just to quit. Knowing the answer. But things just look so bleak right now. It's been dark for so long with no light to be seen. Just a glimmer at the end of the tunnel would be nice.

I believe you're right about giving up just before reaching the goal, but what's so difficult is knowing whether it's truly time to give up or not. Sometimes, stopping is the answer, right?
Andrea says
AMEN..I wonder how many times I gave up inches away from the goal or a blessing! Keep your focus, sweetie. GOD is using you beyond your comprehension.
Blessings, hugs, and prayers,
andrea

What a great reminder to "finish the course, run the race." God knows the beginning from the end even though we think there is no end.
Hugs,

This is great, it really spoke to me in regards to my training for the 1/2 marathon. God is teaching me so much about the spiritual through my physical training… I ran 6 miles today and it felt hard, I wondered again why as I trying to do this… your post spurred me on! I am almost there… God has more things to teach and show me, I will not give up or stop now!!
Blessings!

Such a needed word! So many want to give up rather than endure the trials in life. It's hard to keep going but God has taught me so much about enduring. It's through enduring that He makes us perfect, complete, lacking in nothing. Oh how much I have missed out on when I have given up rather than endured. I so want to be one who endures from now on…no matter how tough it is.
Ginger says
I love Nehemiah! Thanks for this encouraging word today.

And when we get there, when we fight through all of our self-talk to land in the place of God's intention, it almost always proffers as worthy, does it not? I'm always glad I "went there" even though the journey to get there is sometimes fraught with all manner of difficulties.
Faith keeps walking, sister. Thanks for walking yours.
