Do you really want more of the same?
Black and white.
Plain vanilla.
Bland.
Status quo.
Normal.
Is that what you really want? to blend in?
I can still hear my fifteen-year-old daughter say to me, “Please be different.” She typed those words just moments before on Facebook chat. She was trying to encourage to her friend who is struggling with self acceptance. He feels different. So out of frustration, she told me about her conversation. She didn’t get why her friend wants to be just like everyone else because she likes his different.
My heart felt the force of her words.
Please. Be. Different.
Powerful words for me, right where I’m at. Today, in my mid-forties.
I can’t believe that I’ve become a muted down version of me. It’s weird because I want to be both different and yet like others. I want to be unique but not too far out there. It’s interesting to consider our personal limitations, isn’t it? I wonder what stops you from being more colorful and out there. Anything?
If you’ve been reading my blog this week you know I’m learning how fully live. I’m pondering how I can come out of hiding(again), face more fears and share myself freely. The good news is I can feel freedom’s wings beginning to sprout again and I’m loving it. I feel more alive–and colorful.
Maybe I should challenge you. I’m naming today is National Color Crayon Day. So pick a color, any color, and scribble some beauty onto the canvas of our everyone-wants-to-be-the-same-world.
Be color.
Be different.
Please, pretty please, be different.
Because Hannah says so, and because deep down I know she’s right. 🙂
And if you don’t buy that, here’s my final answer, from HIS Word.
You’re here to be light, bringing out the God-colors in the world.
