What makes you upset?
For me, I get fired up about the media portrait of women. The sex symbol. There is more value to a woman than her breast size. I cringe inside during football games seeing beer commercials with half-dressed women. The media is clueless. I grew up in a home with an alcoholic. Beer doesn’t lure the babes in. Thank God my dad has been sober for years now. I think TV needs more “reality commercials.” Reality TV shows are huge, yet commercials still pour on the fluff. A false sense of reality. And I want to scream.
Can you hear me?
Anyway, this is one thing that fuels my fire. Because of my passion, I believe I can be a voice for women. To encourage them to see value in who they are, not in their jean size. I tried for too long to become the image I saw on magazines only to feel inadequate every time. And I’ve found a better way: Christ. As I’ve spent time renewing my mind in the truth, I see I have eternal value. I am loved with extra few pounds. I am accepted. My purpose is not found in my outer shell. My Heavenly Father declares me worthy–as I am.
I challenge you to search your heart for what upsets you. I think that is one way to discern God’s will. I believe God stirs us up according to the direction He wants us to go. For me to live passionately, I have to start with what makes me want to stand on the rooftop and shout. There I can be effective. Lord willing!
“Here I Am, LORD, send me.”

You’ve mentioned an interesting way of discerning your passion . . .but I think you’re on to something. You’re passion isn’t always what excites you. It can also be found in what upsets you too.
Good thought, my friend.

“reality commercials” – great idea, Tiffany!
“I believe God stirs us up according to the direction He wants us to go.” I could not agree with you more. We can’t all be stirred up about the same things, but if we would all (I’m preaching to myself here) just do something about those godly passions He gives us as individuals, then all the things that are important to the heart of God will be addressed by His people. I like these thoughts, Tiffany. I also think that sharing our personal experiences (like how Christ renewed your thinking about your body image) is what will minister to others and free them from those false belief systems.

What upsets me???
People who take on the worries of the world and lead miserable lives.
But if I really let them upset me then I would be as worried and as miserable as them, so no, nothing upsets me.

First of all, I completely relate to your passion in this area. After my husband’s lust secret was unveiled, extreme insecurities rose within me because of media. He fell into the trap for a while, believing sexiness is beauty. In turn, it made me feel like I needed to look stylish, and like that. It made me feel like I needed to change parts of my body, and even my eye color to match his “ideal type.”
Beer may not lure in babes, but babes sure do lure in men, which in turn, feeds an advertisement to their brain. Provocative woman. Beer. Man remembers provocative woman, and in turn, remembers beer brand.
This is why we don’t own a tv. I don’t want to see that stuff while watching the discovery channel, or whatever. It’s just too much.
And as for reality commercials, aren’t reality shows a little unrealistic too? Aren’t they full of make-up, hairstylists, and forced scenes to get what they want?
T.V. and media in general is just pointless to me. Period.
