“Faith is taking the first step even when you don’t see the whole staircase.” Martin Luther King Jr. (posted in honor of Martin Luther King Jr Day. today)
What does walking by faith look like in your everyday life? Is it easy for you to keep stepping when you can’t see where you’re going? Or like me, do you hesitate because of fear or unbelief? Do you want to know more before you will take another step? Is there an area of your life right now that requires your unwavering faith?
If so, you are not alone.
What is faith anyway?
Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see. Hebrews 11:1
In other words, Faith is being sure of the unseen. It’s believing regardless of what our circumstances are. It’s living with expectant hope, a conviction of the truth. It’s trusting God and living it out before others.
With that said, here are 3 reasons I plan to walk by faith today.
1. Faith pleases God. Hebrews 11:6 says without faith it is impossible to please God. I want to love and serve God with my entire heart, soul and strength. When I think of my faith pleasing God I think of His smile. Who wouldn’t want His smile?
2. Faith says yes to God and no to fear. As someone who lived bound by overwhelming fears for years, I love knowing that by saying yes to faith, I am saying NO to fear. God is bigger than any of my what if’s. By choosing to step out in faith, I am saying, “Yes, Lord.”
Want to step on fear today?
If so, take one small step of faith.
3. Faith reminds me of who’s Boss. Walking by faith is not an easy task for a recovering control freak like me. But it teaches me to lean not on my own understanding and to acknowledge Him in all my ways. (see Proverbs 3:4-5) As I become more dependent on Him, I find real rest and peace. And let me tell you that’s worth it! He is so worth it. And no more panic attacks.
Father God, You are in control always. When I feel uncertain, You are sure. You see in full. I only see in part. You smile at my baby steps of faith. You are pleased when I say yes to You and no to fear. Thank You for Your invitation each day to grab Your hand and walk by faith. I don’t need to see the whole the staircase when YOU are my focus. Today I look to You–and take another step. In Jesus name, Amen.

Hey Tiff, been off a while and couldn’t get a connection to your site. I will check back later…I was wanting to ask you to pray for me tomorrow. Extensive dental procedures with about a 10 healing time. Please pray for fear to be removed…no complications..and everything God will bless me with thru this. Thanks…

Thank you for this beautiful, inspiring post. My husband and I are walking through a very hard season financially. After losing our home several months ago, and my husband still being unemployed (close to 2 years), it’s hard sometimes to walk by faith. I often feeling like I am tripping more than walking. Thank you for this timely reminder!
