I did it! I shared my story to a dozen teen girls in jail. And, as always, God did more than I could have hoped or imagined. Just like He promised.
I went carrying three typed pages of notes. The highlights of my life year by year–the joys and the heartaches. I was especially nervous at first when the girls looked at me and my friend with no emotion, no smiles. Stone faced. It was intimidating. But they softened over time, even if only a little.
Thankfully I never ended up using my notes. I wanted to talk straight from my heart and for the most part, I did. A few times I felt myself lose focus or ramble. However, most of the time I felt the passion of God fill me as I spoke. I felt confident of who He is and why I was there. It’s such a good feeling when you know God is giving you the words to say.
The best part of my time there was seeing a girl break down crying to know God after our talks. Another volunteer took her aside and she accepted Christ. That was the greatest reward for me. I’m not sure what made her want to know God but the fact that it happened while my friend and I shared touched me. I’m overwhelmed by God’s grace.
Another amazing part was after my friend shared her story, she sang a song by Sandy Patti called “In Heaven’s Eyes.” I loved the verse, “In heaven’s eyes there are no losers.” The girls loved it. Afterwards, two of them ended up singing to us. One sang “Amazing Love.” Another sang a song called “Angel.” I was moved by their willingness to enter into worship through song.
So if God is asking you to go somewhere you are afraid to go, take heart. GOD WILL SHOW UP! He is faithful. I continue to stand on the verse, when I am weak, He is strong. And to think I thought of ways to escape going to share! I would’ve missed the blessing! And so might you.
Go where He sends you! Go afraid.

I am so glad at how your time at the jail went! I prayed for you and it was awesome to see how God “showed up” for you, your friend, and all of the women there.
