Learning another life lesson from my daughter Hannah. Today while I was talking with my neighbor outside, I saw Hannah by my flowerbed bent over, nose to a flower bloom. She went from one to another smelling them. Shasta Daisies. Roses. Daylilies. Catmint. And many more.
Tonight I looked out my living room window and again Hannah was stooped down, sniffing away. This time she had four of her little friends with her. At first glance, I was about to yell out, “Don’t pick my flowers.” I stopped myself when I realized they were just smelling them.
I’m not sure what provoked Hannah to smell our flowers today. But recently my husband asked her, “Have you stopped to smell the roses today?” She didn’t know what that meant, so I told her. In a way I wonder if Derek was saying that to me too. I was in a mood that day. And I heard him loud and clear even if he wasn’t asking me.
Hearing Derek’s question and watching my daughter actually smell the flowers today sends me a strong message: I need to take time to enjoy each day! There is a world full of wonder set before me. I just need to slow down and breathe it in!
I hope you will too!
(More photos from our trip to Oregon and northern California. I did stop and take photos of flowers. But it’s easy to forget that when I am home and busy.)
